Some trips need a weekend. This one needs two weeks — and it earns every day of it. This 15 Days / 14 Nights South India tour package takes you from the garden city of Bengaluru through Coorg’s coffee-scented hills, Mysuru’s royal streets, the cool air of Ooty and Kodaikanal, the temple towns of Madurai and Rameswaram, the southern tip at Kanyakumari, and finally into Kerala’s capital, Thiruvananthapuram.
It’s the kind of itinerary that works well for travelers who want more than one region — a single, well-paced route through Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, with a private vehicle for the entire journey and no repeated packing and unpacking beyond what each destination genuinely calls for.

Day-Wise 15 Days South India Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Bengaluru
The trip begins the moment you land at Bengaluru Airport, Railway Station, or Bus Stand, where our representative will receive you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, spend the afternoon getting a first taste of the city.
- Lalbagh Botanical Garden — a 240-acre garden laid out in the 18th century, home to one of India’s oldest glasshouses
- Cubbon Park — a green stretch running through the heart of the city, popular with morning walkers and cyclists
- Vidhana Soudha — the seat of Karnataka’s state legislature, an imposing example of Neo-Dravidian architecture
- ISKCON Temple — one of the largest Krishna temples in the country, striking especially in the evening light
Overnight: Bengaluru
Day 2: Bengaluru to Coorg (Approx. 270 km / 6 hrs)
After breakfast, the drive heads southwest toward Coorg, often called the “Scotland of India” for its rolling green hills and cool, misty climate.
En route, stop at the Namdroling Golden Temple in Bylakuppe — one of the largest Tibetan settlements outside Tibet, home to a striking gold-plated monastery and a genuinely peaceful atmosphere that’s worth the half-hour detour.
On arrival in Coorg, visit Raja’s Seat, a garden viewpoint once used by the kings of Kodagu to watch the sunset over the valley — still one of the best places in town to do exactly that. Check in to your hotel for the evening.
Overnight: Coorg
Day 3: Coorg Sightseeing
A full day dedicated to Coorg’s forests, coffee estates, and river life.
- Abbey Falls — a waterfall set amid coffee and spice plantations, a short walk from the parking area
- Dubare Elephant Camp — a working elephant camp on the banks of the Kaveri River, where you can watch (and sometimes assist with) elephant bathing and feeding
- Coffee Plantation Tour — Coorg produces a significant share of India’s coffee; a plantation walk explains how it goes from berry to bean
- Madikeri Fort — a 17th-century fort built by the Kodagu kings, now housing a small museum and offering good views over Madikeri town
Overnight: Coorg
Day 4: Coorg to Mysuru (Approx. 120 km / 3 hrs)
After breakfast, drive to Mysuru, the former seat of the Wadiyar dynasty and one of South India’s most graceful cities.
- Mysore Palace — the city’s centerpiece, a lavish Indo-Saracenic structure best seen lit up on Sunday evenings and public holidays, when thousands of bulbs outline its domes and arches
- St. Philomena’s Cathedral — one of the tallest churches in Asia, built in Neo-Gothic style
- Brindavan Gardens — terraced gardens beside the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam, known for their musical fountain show in the evening
Overnight: Mysuru
Day 5: Mysuru Sightseeing
A second day in Mysuru to cover the rest of the city’s landmarks and its famous shopping streets.
- Chamundi Hill — a 1,000-metre hill overlooking the city, reached by road or a flight of over a thousand steps for the more energetic
- Chamundeshwari Temple — perched atop the hill, dedicated to the goddess after whom Mysuru is named
- Mysuru Zoo — one of India’s oldest zoos, spread over spacious, well-shaded grounds
- Shopping for Mysore Silk & Sandalwood Products — the city is famous for both; Devaraja Market and the government silk emporium are good starting points
Overnight: Mysuru
Day 6: Mysuru to Ooty (Approx. 125 km / 4 hrs)
The drive to Ooty passes through Bandipur and Mudumalai, two contiguous tiger reserves and part of the larger Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Keep your eyes on the roadside — sightings of deer, elephants, and occasionally larger wildlife are common, especially in the early morning or late afternoon.
Once in Ooty, spend the evening at:
- Ooty Lake — an artificial lake created in the 1820s, popular for boating
- Botanical Garden — over 1,000 species of plants spread across terraced lawns, first laid out in 1848
Overnight: Ooty
Day 7: Ooty Sightseeing
A full day exploring the “Queen of Hill Stations.”
- Doddabetta Peak — the highest point in the Nilgiris at over 2,600 metres, with a telescope house offering panoramic views on clear days
- Nilgiri Mountain Railway — a UNESCO World Heritage steam and diesel railway that has been climbing these hills since 1908; even a short stretch of the ride is worth it
- Tea Museum — a working small-scale tea factory showing the process from leaf to cup, with tastings
- Rose Garden — one of India’s largest rose gardens, with over 2,000 varieties on terraced slopes
Overnight: Ooty
Day 8: Ooty to Kodaikanal (Approx. 255 km / 7 hrs)
This is the longest driving day of the trip, but the route through the Nilgiri and Palani hills makes it a scenic one. Arrive in Kodaikanal by evening and take an easy first look at the town:
- Coaker’s Walk — a paved pathway along a ridge, offering sweeping views of the plains below on a clear evening
- Bryant Park — a well-maintained botanical garden right beside Kodai Lake
Overnight: Kodaikanal
Day 9: Kodaikanal Sightseeing
A full day taking in Kodaikanal’s lakes, viewpoints, and caves.
- Kodai Lake — a star-shaped artificial lake at the heart of town, ideal for a boat ride or a walk along the shore
- Pillar Rocks — three enormous rock formations rising vertically from the hillside, best visited in the morning before the mist rolls in
- Green Valley View — also known as Suicide Point, offering dramatic views over the plains of Tamil Nadu below
- Guna Caves — natural rock caves that gained popularity after appearing in a well-known Tamil film, set amid dense forest
Overnight: Kodaikanal
Day 10: Kodaikanal to Madurai (Approx. 120 km / 3.5 hrs)
Descending from the hills into the plains, the temperature — and the pace — shifts noticeably as you arrive in Madurai, one of India’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.
- Meenakshi Amman Temple — a vast temple complex dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar, famous for its towering, intricately sculpted gopurams
- Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal — a 17th-century palace known for its massive pillared courtyard, built in a blend of Dravidian and Islamic styles
Overnight: Madurai
Day 11: Madurai to Rameswaram (Approx. 175 km / 3.5 hrs)
The road east from Madurai leads to Rameswaram, an island town connected to the mainland by the Pamban Bridge and one of the holiest sites in Hindu pilgrimage tradition.
- Ramanathaswamy Temple — one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, known for its 1,200-metre corridor, among the longest of any temple in India
- Agni Theertham — the shoreline where pilgrims traditionally bathe before entering the temple
- Pamban Bridge — India’s first sea bridge, still an engineering landmark connecting Rameswaram island to the mainland
Overnight: Rameswaram
(If you’d like a deeper, temple-focused version of this leg — including Dhanushkodi, the 22 Holy Wells, and Madurai’s other sights — our standalone Rameswaram Madurai tour package covers it in more detail.)
Day 12: Rameswaram to Kanyakumari (Approx. 310 km / 6 hrs)
Before leaving Rameswaram, make time for Dhanushkodi, the abandoned ghost town at the very tip of the peninsula, destroyed by a cyclone in 1964 and never rebuilt — a striking, quiet stop where the Bay of Bengal meets the Indian Ocean.
The drive continues to Kanyakumari, India’s southernmost point, where the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and Indian Ocean meet. Time your arrival for the evening and you’ll catch one of the country’s most spectacular sunsets over open water.
Overnight: Kanyakumari
Day 13: Kanyakumari to Thiruvananthapuram (Approx. 95 km / 2.5 hrs)
